Since today, I get “Twitter status contains malware” error for a tweet containing a bit.ly URL.

What this error is?

By Google search, I found the following Twitter help page about a warning about malware or spam:

So, the “Twitter status contains malware” error means that Twitter blocks bit.ly URLs as suspected harmful URLs (even though a bit.ly URL is not actually harmful).

Solution

Don’t use bitly, post a URL as it is.

That’s it. URL links shared on Twitter.com will automatically be shortened to a “http://t.co” link.
